  • Overview

    ProSight’s fast paced and dynamic Claims Department is looking for a highly motivated Claims Examiner to handle mid-level first and third party Marine claims. Experience with various Marine policies (e.g. Marine Liability, Marine Employer’s Liability, Protection & Indemnity, Hull & Machinery, etc.) is imperative.


    • Vet bodily injury claims as they are reported to determine if they should be handled as Jones Act or USL&H matters.
    • Handle excess liability claims and lineslip Hull & Machinery claims. Promptly identify claims that have significant exposure.
    • Ability to interpret and apply customized insurance policies to real life situations.
    • Conduct thorough, high-quality investigations and utilize outside resources as necessary.
    • Assigned claims may involve coverage interpretation and litigation, including specialized coverage extensions.
    • Prepare appropriate coverage letters for review and approval by claims management.
    • Complete an investigation on each claim in a timely manner and fully document the claim file with claim details.
    • Handle assigned claims following company guidelines and industry best practices.
    • Set accurate reserves on each claim within given authority level and promptly advise management of claims that will require reserves exceeding authority.
    • Maintain a diary system that assures that each assigned claim will receive necessary ongoing attention.
    • Possible travel to attend mediations, settlement conferences and trials.
    • Use the claims system to change reserves and make payments within assigned authority levels.
    • Closely manage defense counsel, outside investigators and surveyors to ensure that loss adjustment expenses are appropriate.
    • Meet with members of other departments to discuss specific claim details or general claims issues.
    • Maintain adjuster licenses in states as required. (Texas and Louisiana at minimum.)
    • May be called upon to perform other tasks and duties within the claims department as dictated by business needs.


    • 2+ years of experience handling first party and liability marine claims
    • Bachelor’s degree preferred
    • Ability to evaluate policy language and apply to claim
    • Willingness to accept challenges and take on new responsibilities
    • Solid planning & organizational skills including time-management and prioritization
    • Analytical skills to identify, gather, and organize information
    • Customer focused attitude and skills to resolve inquiries quickly and effectively
    • Strong verbal & written communication skills
